Guilford Tax Rates: Highest in the Area

According to the Triad Business Journal, Brenda Jones Fox and the County Commissioers are ready to raise property taxes again. Full article here:  Triad Business Journal Article

"Fox’s recommended budget totals $601.4 million, which is up from the $579.9 million current budget.

"Under the recommended budget, Guilford County’s property tax rate would stand at 82.24 cents per $100 of assessed value.

"The county just underwent a revaluation process examining property values, which showed very little growth in its tax base. The total real estate base has grown to $37.4 billion, up nearly 18 percent — or $5.6 billion — from $31.8 billion in 2004. But most of that growth stemmed from new construction in the pre-recession real estate boom."

For comparision,  here are the Tax Rates for counties in the Triad.

Guilford, 78.24 cents per $100 valuation.

Forsyth, 67.4 cents

Davie, 62 cents

Davidson, 54 cents

Randolph, 58.60 cents

Rowan, 62.25 cents

So what does Guilford have that the other Counties don't, that warrant a substantially higher Rate.  I think the answer is Skip Alston, Paul Gibson, and Kirk Perkins.  For these three reasons, I ask you to go to the Polls on May 8 and vote for Jeff Phillips, District 5.  Thank you.
