About Jeff

Jeff Phillips is a native North Carolinian. He was born in Winston-Salem on September 11, 1962. He moved often in his early years and he spent much of his youth in Oklahoma City. He attended high school there and later the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma where he studied Computer Science and General Business. Jeff demonstrated initiative early. Throughout high school and college he worked in the Circulation Department for the largest newspaper company in the Oklahoma City Metro area, the Daily Oklahoman, in one of the fastest growing districts of the city and was one of the youngest District Manager’s in the newspaper’s history.

Jeff began his financial services career in 1986 with Prudential. A promotional opportunity brought Jeff and his family back to North Carolina in 1995 where he settled in Greensboro. Jeff further developed his financial expertise with stints at Paine Webber/UBS and Wachovia Securities before founding his own firm, Phillips Wealth Management.

Jeff’s grasp of complex financial issues gives him special insight into the many financial challenges facing our county. Whether it’s excessive County spending, the almost billion dollar county debt, the nearly $100 million in annual debt service, widespread unemployment, or stagnant economic development – helping craft solutions to these problems will require someone with in-depth knowledge and extensive experience within the financial industry that Jeff possesses.

Jeff married at age 19 and has been with his wife and best friend, Lori, for 30 years. They’ve been blessed with two wonderful daughters. Chelsea, 24, is married to Jonathan Lockwood. Both are graduates of NC State and living in Raleigh. Heather, 21, is an Elementary Education major at UNC-Greensboro. While they were growing up Jeff encouraged his girls’ athletic interests and coached various teams in their favorite sports of soccer, softball, and basketball.

Jeff also has a passion for community service. He attends The Fellowship in High Point and is a past member and Director of Daystar Church of Greensboro. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Children’s Museum. He is past president of the Optimist Club of Greensboro. His Wealth Management firm is a corporate partner with The Financial Futures Foundation, “a non-profit organization founded in 2007 with the purpose of identifying, nurturing, and motivating minority or female high school students who may have career interests in the field of financial services but lack exposure to the industry”. He is President and Co-founder of Greensboro’s Men of Vision and Excellence (M.O.V.E.) whose purpose is “for men to exchange effective and practical Truths about leadership, marriage, parenting, family relationships, wealth, giving, and the importance of service in our community”. Jeff also serves regularly as a Team Leader for the Salvation Army’s Nightwatch ministry which delivers food, blankets, and hope to the many men and women of Greensboro’s homeless population.

When Jeff sees the people around him beset by so many difficult problems and witnesses the decline of our once great County, he feels absolutely compelled to step in and make a difference. Jeff looks forward to using his energy, his leadership, and problem solving skills to give you a passionate and effective voice on the Board of Commissioners.
